Type Locality and Naming

Along the Kalmakbulak spring, Mount Karachatyr, Southern Fergana. F.R. Bensh, 1958 (105, p. 58); 1959 (382, pp. 72, 74).

Synonym: Kalmak-Bulak Suite, Калмакбулакская св., Kal'makbulak suite


Lithology and Thickness

Two sub-suites are distinguished. Lower part (thickness. 700-750m) - interbedded sandstones and claystones with layers of gravelites, clastic and sandy limestones in the lower part. sub-suite in the lower part (thickness. 200-500m) - massive and thick-bedded fine- and medium-grained sandstones with subordinate layers of siltstone (aleurolites), lenses of conglomerates and gravelites, rarely sandy limestones. Upper part (thickness. 400-500m) predominantly clayey with layers of fine- and medium-grained sandstones. Conglomerate lenses are located at the base. Thickness of the suite is 1300-1750m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It lies conformably, in places with erosion, on the Koksaray Fm

Upper contact

It is overlain with erosion by the Akterek Fm

Regional extent

Southern Fergana, east Karachatyr, Tuleikanskaya, Markhamatskaya, Akterekskaya synclines.

In the Lower part - contains Upper Bashkirian foraminifers Endothyra ex gr. bradyi Mich., Eostaffella acuta Grozd. et Leb., Pseudostaffella antiqua grandis Schlyk., P. praegorskyi Raus., Ozawainella ex gr. pseudoangulata (Putrja), Profusulinella cf. parva (Lee et Chen), Aljutovella sp. Bepx. The sub-suite in the lower part contains Lower Moscovian foraminifer complex of the Aljutovella aljutovica zone (Kokchinian hor.) Profusulinella parva (Lee et Chen), P. aff primitiva Sosn., Depratina chernovi (Raus.), Ovatella ex gr. ovata (Raus.), O. cf. subovata (Saf.), Tikhonovichiella aff. pseudoaljutovica (Raus.), Eofusulina ? sp.; higher - Bradyina nautiliformis Moel., Ozawainella ex gr. angulata (Col.), Profusulinella cf. rhomboides (Lee et Chen), P. mutabilis Saf., Ovatella ex gr. ovata (Raus.), Priscoidella ex gr. priscoidea (Raus.), Fusulinella praebocki Raus., Fusulinella subpulchra (Putrja) - Moellerites bedakensis - Fusulinella subpulchra zone (Kelvasayian hor.). In the Upper part, organic remains are not found.


Age
